Lock the beat unit before judging the result. A 6/8 phrase timed at 60 dotted-quarter BPM is not the same as 60 quarter-note BPM; the beat unit changes how many quarter-note equivalents each BPM pulse contains.
Separate musical length from timeline length. The core phrase is the bar count; count-ins, pickups, tails, and repeats are extra timeline decisions that can be useful for exports, markers, and rehearsal notes.

And those spaces are every bit as important than the notes themselves.

This is the life of film and television composers. A scene might only give you ten seconds for a transition cue. Write out a typical eight bar phrase at a moderately slow pace and you may well blow through your window. The calculator allows you to work backward from either phrase length or the tempo. You can set the number of repeats to see how a loop will behave over time.

The guesswork become precision. Instead of wondering if something will fit, you begin knowing how it will fit.
