💡 DI Count Tips
Count channels first, then boxes: A stereo keyboard is two DI channels even if it travels through one stereo DI box. Confirm the channel total against the stagebox before reducing the physical box count with stereo or rack DIs.
Match DI type to the source impedance: Passive guitars and piezo acoustics usually want active DIs, while active synths, playback interfaces and DJ controllers often work well through transformer-isolated passive DIs with pads and ground lifts.

It happens all the time. The band shows up, they has one more acoustic guitar or a brand-new keyboard rig for the encore set. You had four direct inputs last week and your gut sinks as you realize that now you’ll need to pull DI boxes and replace mics. And all this happen while the stage manager looks at you with concern.
