Separate written beats from conducted beats. In 6/8, a chart may contain six written eighth-note beats per bar, while performers often feel two dotted-quarter pulses. Use the beat unit selector to make the seconds match the real count.
Use cue counts for action, not analysis. A phrase can be 64 beats long, but a player may only need the final 8 or 16 beats as a useful cue. Set cue lead and cue step to match the instruction you will actually give.
