Pianist creates moment of relief amid Louisiana floods

While in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, helping clear out a friend’s house damaged in the floods, a young man decided to sit down at a piano.

The instrument was badly damaged in the flooding, having taken in four feet of water. But Mark Chasuk was still able to play some great music during a break from the clean-up work. The piece heard in the video clip above is “Tarantella” by Albert Pieczonka.

The floods have made thousands of people homeless across the south of the state and damaged at least 40,000 homes. The disaster has been compounded by the fact that few residents have flood insurance and will struggle to rebuild.
