Tuning Ear Trainer

The Tuning Ear Trainer helps you sharpen your sense of pitch. This app provides feedback on how well you hear relative pitches.

To start, click the widget’s controls using your mouse or trackpad. Alternatively, press keys on your computer keyboard if that suits your workflow better.

How to Use the Tuning Ear Trainer

Two notes will be played one after another. The first will be the reference pitch. You will be asked to determine if the second note is in tune, sharp, or flat. Listen carefully then choose accordingly.

The interface is divided into short parts to stay in tune with the audio. Up top is the challenge selector. This allows you to jump between the three levels of difficulty: Easy, Medium and Hard.

Difficulty determines the size of the pitch difference. For example, in Easy mode it’s easy to hear as it creates a bigger gap between notes. In Hard mode, there are very small offsets which need to be listened for carefuly to pick up the slightest hint of clash or beats.

Then below that is a game bar that displays stats like your accumulated experience points, best and current streaks. This helps to measure improvement over time and encourages you to try harder at improving your accuracy.

The central part of the tool is the playing stage, and the main control panel sits just above it. Here
