This is a sight reading generator. This is an app that will generate a brief étude for you to learn how to read at sight.
You can choose your mouse or touchscreen to interact with the score, or if you prefer to move around more quickly you can use your computer keyboard. It is like having music stand in front of you. It will print the piece, let you look at it and then let you play through with timing cues.
How to Use the Sight Reading App
Once ready to go select the options from the settings panel above. Which clefs do you want? Choose a bass or treble clef to suit your voice or instrument. Decide how far down or up you would like to read. This helps keep the notes in an easy-to-read area, but also gives you the option to use ledger lines if you want to make it harderer. Next, decide on a key signature, your preferred page length, and meter. Finally, decide on difficulty level. You can choose anything from easy, first-look activities to tough, audition-level passages.
Once engraved, inspect the score before playing. To listen to the pitch and duration of each note, simply tap on it in the score. This also works for the numbered handles above or below the staff. It’s an easy way to check tricky rhythms or intervals.
When you hit a difficult measure, just tap the BAR tab under the staff. The rewrite button will then create a new version of that exact measure leaving the rest of the piece unchanged.
There are buttons for focusing on particular areas of your skills with the practice lens. Full piece reading mode will play it back exactly as written. Pitch spotlight mode is like a sort of highlighter function. It shows the pitch shape while keeping other elements such as dynamics and rhythm intact. Rhythm silhouette mode plays only the notes in the tonic key so you can identify the rhythmic shapes by themselves. You can also switch on the scale degree pencil marks, which show numbers under the notes to support tonal sight-reading.
Hit the one-take page turn button and away you go playing the piece. There’s an option to have a prepare window that waits for you to look through the music before the audio starts. There is also an optional conductor count-in so you’ve got a steady pulse before the first note sounds. There is also a veil feature that hides upcoming bars, which forces you to read ahead in real-time. Tempo ramp slowly increases the tempo helping build your endurance. Toggling on baton maintains the metronome sound during performance to keep things moving.
It is easy to navigate around thanks to keyboard shortcuts. The arrow keys will jump to the next measure or move between notes. You can also use the tab key to switch between bar markers and note handles. To hear what the selected note sounds like, press the spacebar or enter. To mark current bar to be rewritten, press one through eight on the number pad; then press B to write over that bar. To begin a one-take performance of the piece, press T; to create a new study, press E. Pressing escape will stop playback and return you to seeing the complete score.
Adjust it to taste with tempo and volume control. To change your output level and adjust the starting tempo, just drag the sliders. Changes will take effect instantly during playback or next time you engrave something. The fullscreen option provides a distraction free space, like a physical music stand.
If you wish to reset, use the cutoff button to halt playback at the double bar.
To begin, make the pages short and set a reasonable speed. Enable the veil to look further ahead in time. Learn the melodic contour with the pitch spotlight, then gradually complicate the rhythms. Write out tricky bars until they flow easy. As you get used to it, vary the range and grade up or down to suit your progress.
Quick reference guides for conventions and controls are easily accessible in the help panel. The panel is hidden when not in use to keep the interface clean.
Expand your skillset by trying out various key signatures and meters. Easily make corrections on the fly as the widget give instant audio feedback. Before diving into this, spend some time browsing through the score. Let the tools help you zero in on trouble spots. Establish your comfort level.
