This widget act as a digital quality control assistant. It ensures your audio masters matches delivery standards. It also guides you through five separate quality gates. These quality gates makes sure your finished files is free from technical issues and any other kinds of artifacts.
You’ll be able to click/tap your way around the controls on-screen, but if you’d prefer to navigate more quickly using your computer keyboard, you’re welcome to do that too.
How to use the tool
On the interface, number fields is separated from checklist-type descriptive fields. At the top of the screen, you’ll see input areas for true peak, integrated loudness and loudness range. Here’s where you enter numbers (in dBTP and LUFS), and you adjust the delivery profile via dropdown menu. Each profile establish a new benchmark for target loudness, for example, the loudness guide for dynamic release, dense pop mix, or streaming.
The main area display five stages of the mastering process, ranging from source integrity to final file metadata. There are three specific checks within each stage that you need to verify, and you cycle through the status of each one by either clicking on it or pressing Enter while it has focus. If it’s correct, the status move from untested to verified; if not, it go to issue. All three checks within a given gate has to be marked verified before the gate itself is considered complete.
The preflight button run a delivery check of whether your measurements is in line with the chosen profile. For example, did you get your loudness within one LU of the targeted level? Is your true peak no more than -1dBTP? Does your loudness range fall between 3 and 18 LU? You’ll see the result as colors next to each field. If it’s green, it passed; if it’s red, it’s a blocker and require some attention before moving forward.
There is also a set of buttons at the bottom of the check list that help make the work flow more efficient. The loudness trim button lets you know how much to adjust the model level to achieve the desired loudness. It will also tell you what the true peak will be as a result, giving you a warning before you clip while simply adjusting the volume.
There’s a raised next blocker button that selects the next item in the list not yet checked off for you and flags it highlighted so you know where to go next to get things finished up. Once everything has passed and all 15 checks have been verified, you can generate a QC certificate.
Work with or without your mouse. Use keyboard shortcuts to focus on the quality gate of your choice (1-5) and jump straight to the section you’d like to review. To run the preflight check, press P; to model the loudness trim calculation, press G. To stay focused, press N to move focus to the next unresolved blocker. Like clicking, press the spacebar to cycle between check statuses.
Enter in your measured values (range, peak & loudness), choose a profile based off how you want your material distributed, and step through the five gates one at a time. Flag or verify items along the way. Use the raise next blocker function when you find a blocker during the preflight to resolve issues one at a time. When all are green, you know the master’s ready: make the certificate.
