The Daily Melody Puzzle widget ask you to reassemble an obscured eight-note phrase. By manipulating rhythm and pitch, you solve the puzzle. With a touch interface (tap directly on the grid) or a mouse, solution is found. Alternatively, for more detailed control of timing and pitch, use your computer keyboard.
Eight vertical slots is displayed on the main area, each of which correspond to a different note in the melody. There are eight notes here between C4 and C5.
How to Play
By tapping on a block, you increase its pitch. If you hold Shift whilst tapping then you decrease it instead. Alternatively, click on the block that you want to focus on and press the up/down/left/right arrow keys. Use up or right to increase the pitch. Use down or left to reduce it. Spacebar will also increases the pitch.
To control rhythm, they cycles through note durations. Hit the R key (on your keyboard) or click on Lengthen focused beat. This will cycle the currently highlighted note from an eighth to a quarter and then to a dotted quarter. As you do this, width of the note block visually alter to represent the length.
Each time you alter the parameter, you’ll hear result immediately.
The target melody plays after you press the Sound the clue button. Pay attention to its rhythm and shape. Then try to repeat it by using the Check the phrase button. This will highlight matching notes. You can get into full mode where you have to get both rhythm AND pitch correct to get a match. Or just go for pitch only, which check how high a note is but not its length.
To see which notes are actualy being played, you’ll have to press the Unmask one note button to display the right pitch and length of each note.
The interval contour map is another option for viewing intervals so you know how they relates to other notes. Simply click on an interval tile in the map and it play that two-note sound. It is great for isolating tricky transitions.
To navigate focus, press the number keys from 1 to 8 to jump to that position in the melody grid. To toggle the interval map open and closed, press C. To control the master level, use volume slider.
Each day, the puzzle reset. At any point during the day, you may restore it to its original state.
