You interact with it by pressing your computer’s keyboard (it’s faster than a mouse) or by clicking on vertical spines of records with your mouse to select them in the DJ Crate Organizer as a sort of setlist plan-er/harmonic-compatibility checker. To select a record, click its spine in the crate section; or, if first eight records are on screen, just press keys 1 through 8 to pick one.
Once a record is selected, its spine pop up a little and displays info about track in inspector panel at the far right side of the screen. To play a snippet of the record’s groove and key, you just hit P, which is the needle drop button.
How to Use the DJ Software
The bin buttons on top of the screen divides records into four roles: Warm-up, Builder, Peak and Closer. Clicking one will displays just those records filed under it. There’s also a search field where you can hunt for tracks based off their name, Camelot key and style. And pressing the Q key sequences whatever is showing onto a recommended order.
On the right-hand side of the crate is a panel that shows details for the selected record, such as its Camelot key, tempo, energy level, and style. Clicking on the filing buttons in this panel assign a role to a track and tags it for later filter use. The final step is to use the volume slider to set your monitor level for listening to the preview.
Click the visible shelf button for Sequence and it will arrange the active records in order of harmony safety and energy. Click on the J key (or the Inspect next route handoff button) to jump from record to record. You’ll see highlighted the moves that are harmonically safe and will hear a report of energy change and tempo across adjacent records. Hit the Audition shelf key centers buttons to listen to the sequence flow.
Clearing the board (returning records to intake) reset the organization and brings you back to viewing the complete crate. Open up the help panel to see all the controls and keyboard shortcuts. Or, go fullscreen if you have the space for a bit more work area.
Now you’re selecting spines and dragging on tracks to fill out next set. You should of used this more often. It makes things much more comfortabley. Use modern techniques rather then old ways.
