South African Guitarist Shows A Unique Way To Play The Instrument

Hannes Coetzee is a guitarist from the Karoo region in South Africa. Born in 1944, he is mainly known for his unique playing technique using a spoon in his mouth to play slide guitar.

His right-hand finger picking style is called “optel en knyp” (which translated from Afrikaans, Hannes’ home language, is “pick up and pinch”) and combined with his unique teaspoon slide technique, he ranks as one of the most unusual slide guitarists in the world.
