Outdoor pianos are not always welcome

A growing number of towns and cities around the world have embraced the idea of placing pianos in popular outdoor locations during the summer months. A budding musician or veteran player can entertain passers-by and maybe even get their talents noticed.

But it seems pianos are not always welcomed with open arms. Irritated by the noise, an angry resident in Sussex, New Brunswick, took matters into his own hands and screwed the lid of the town’s piano shut.

Scott Hatcher, whose idea it was to install the piano, said it was in proximity to two bars and that people may have been playing it on their way home late at night. He added that the town knows who vandalised the instrument because they spoke about it on social media.

This will be anything but an amusing tale to the local artists who reportedly invested $5,000 worth of work to renovate the instrument.
