Daria van den Bercken Takes Piano In The Air

While playing one of George Frideric Handel’s pieces for baroque keyboard, Daria van den Bercken had an unusual experience. She was brought into the emotional roller coaster of the work, in what she refers to as “two very contrasting characters.”

Those characters are illustrated in the piece that she plays here, beautiful melancholy and sheer energy. It is through these two characters that van den Bercken has empowered her playing of Handel to take piano to new places, on the road and through the air.

From her TED Talk in Berlin in 2014, Daria van den Bercken illustrates the human voice through piano composition as well as articulating how piano has the ability to cross borders and ideals like nothing else.
