Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ played on 300 Android Smartphones

Beethoven wrote his 9th Symphony (also his final orchestral work) as a tribute to the collective experience of humanity. I’m not sure that he envisioned how people on the other side of the globe would experience his music in the 21st century.

Google Japan has posted this video where 300 smartphones and tablets (all using the Android Androidify app) reveal pixelated characters who perform a variation of Ode To Joy with slight key changes.

The event took place in Tokyo at a shopping center as onlookers and spectators gathered to experience this classical masterpiece in a new light.
